AI-Based Health Education Videos
Project Name: Evaluating the Acceptability of Artificial Intelligence to Digitize the University of Ottawa Heart Institute's Hypertension Guide
Quality Improvement Project #275
Project Description: The overall objective of this project is to digitize print patient educational materials (PEM) into short, accessible, and easy-to-understand health education videos delivered by AI avatars. The UOHI Hypertension Guide was specifically digitized and evaluated for this project.
Patients at the UOHI Hypertension Clinic will be surveyed about the acceptability of receiving information from the Hypertension Guide in video format, delivered by AI avatars. Given the quality improvement nature of the project, an arbitrary target of 50 patients has been set as a benchmark to provide sufficient and representative results.
This project is expected to make UOHI educational materials more interactive and engaging than present print materials which are static and challenging to update. Confirming acceptability of this tool will have important future implications for patient education at the UOHI as it may be widely adopted across other clinics and patient guides. Over time, digitization of UOHI educational materials may support positive health outcomes and improved self-management.
