Smoke Break Program
The Community-Based Research Centre (CBRC) is a national Canadian organization dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities through community-led research, knowledge exchange, leadership development, and health-focused interventions. Established in 1999, CBRC works to address health inequities affecting sexual and gender diverse populations by developing inclusive, evidence-informed programs and fostering partnerships with healthcare providers, researchers, and community organizations across Canada.
CBRC leads the Smoke Break Program, a free virtual smoking and vaping reduction program designed specifically for 2S/LGBTQIA+ individuals across Canada. Through trauma-informed, peer-led support, the program provides one-on-one counselling, group support, and access to nicotine replacement therapy kits delivered directly to participants. Smoke Break aims to create culturally safe and affirming spaces that support harm reduction and smoking cessation while addressing barriers commonly experienced within 2S/LGBTQIA+ communities.
